Gap diagnosis

The gap diagnosis lists every prompt where visibility is weak and explains the shape of the problem. Well-cited prompts do not appear here.

The three gap classes

1. Absent: no AI answer for this prompt cited or mentioned you at all
2. Mentioned, not cited: answers name your brand but never link your site
3. Inconsistently cited: the prompt ran at least three times and you were cited in a third of the runs or fewer

Each class points to a different fix. Absent prompts usually need content that does not exist yet, or better retrieval. Mentioned-not-cited prompts usually need citability work: pages that are worth linking. Inconsistently cited prompts need anchor content that makes the citation stick.

For Claude and ChatGPT runs a grey note on the row shows, per platform, in how many of the runs where the AI searched it fetched a page on your domain, and in how many of those it then cited you. Never fetched is a retrieval problem: the page is not found. Fetched, not cited is the tracked evidence behind the audit's Retrieved, not cited class: the page was read and rejected, so the fix is citability, not retrieval. The two can differ per platform for the same prompt.

The local presence gap

Local prompts get a fourth check that has nothing to do with your content. When Google shows a local pack for a prompt and you rank in the organic top 10 but are not in the pack, your page is fine and your Google Business Profile is the problem: an incomplete or unverified profile, a wrong category, a missing address, or too few reviews.

The Local presence gap card on the Gap diagnosis tab lists those prompts. It only appears when at least one run in the period showed a local pack, and it is decided by the latest run that showed one for each prompt. Each row tells you:

• how often you were in the pack over the period, for example "in 0 of 3 runs"
• your organic rank in that latest run, linked to the ranking page
• which businesses were in the pack instead (businesses you hid via feedback are left out)
• a link that opens that run on the Reports page

A prompt where you are missing from both the organic top 10 and the pack is not listed here; that is a content or authority problem and belongs to the classes above.

From class to audit

Each diagnosed prompt offers a one-click audit against the competitor that wins it. The audit compares your page with the winning page and returns the exact reasons, which turn the gap class into a task list.

The audit result classes

When the audit examines an absent prompt, it can distinguish deeper causes:

1. No content: you have no page on this topic at all
2. Not retrieved: you have content, but the AI never sees it, typically a retrieval or indexing problem
3. Retrieved, not cited: the AI sees your page but prefers others, typically a content quality or authority gap
